BRAVE RIFLES Campaign mission 5

Attention, cavalrymen!

Mission 5 will be played if all goes well 20th Feb 2011, 1800 hrs GMT. There is a possibility I won't make it, so it may also be postponed by one week, but will inform you later! The date depends on 1) if the map gets done in time (manteuffel is working his ass off in RL but will to try to get the map done, fingers crossed!), and 2) if I have the time to make the mission and participate, as I have a few things in RL too.

I will post all info, and downloadables in this thread as usual.

Situation after mission 4:

Apache

1x M88 destroyed for good

1x M113FO destroyed, replacing vehicle will be available, but it will arrive with the rest of the support

1x M1A1 damaged (3/A), will arrive with the rest of the support

Crazyhorse

1x M1 destroyed and gone

1x M88 heavily damaged, will be repaired for mission 6?

1x M3 damaged and in repairs (was damaged in a minefield in mission 4), ready for mission 6?

All platoons have quickly managed to do a platoon replen, where the remaining ammunition has been distributed equally between vehicles. This means, for example, that in 2A (bradley) platoon each vehicle will have -60 AP ammo, -65 HE ammo and -6 TOWs etc.

Platoons will need replenishment soon. Regiment has sent in supply vehicles, which will arrive, along with the escort, with the 3/A repaired M1A1, and the replacement M113FO, but they need to catch up with the units first! And in between are the bypassed enemy infantry infested towns (Bernsen, Kathrinhagen, Auetal).

Mission 4 ended 0126 hrs game time. Mission 5 will commence ~0230 game time, the ~hour was needed to redistribute the ammo, redeploy for attack and giving out orders. The rain has stopped and enemy has begun firing illumination with artillery in this sector, and all this will be "simulated" by better visibility and higher minimum light level during mission 5. We still got the upper hand with the TI, but the enemy is no longer blind as a bat.

Our next task is to continue the attack, exploiting the success here before the enemy can react effectively, and take Reinsdorf - Apelem - Lauetal -line. Like said above, the map from this area is not finished yet, and manteuffel is working on it as much as he can =)

Some things to think about:

Brun, Hedgehog, Kingtiger... You guys need to handle the ammo replenishment for platoons during the next mission, while the unit is conducting the attack mission. We need to be well (or even fully) replenished for mission 6! This won't be an easy task, of course, as each vehicle collecting ammunition, is away from the combat!

Hedgehog... the 4 mortar vehicles we got are low on ammo as well. This means we will have limited fires for mission 5. If the vehicles are replenished, they will all be available for mission 6! In mission 5 we start with 2+2 tubes (first 2 representing 7/A saving the ammo and firing only half the amount of rounds / firemission, and next 2 represent King Battery doing the same). King will also replenish for mission 6, but they are still down to 4 operational M109s. And their range won't cover all the battlefield - but more on that later on ;)... if we're lucky Knight 6 will be on station.

SITREP.

1. I’ll be “absent on duty” from the suggested start time until 01 MAR (my time - which is 02 MAR Zulu).

Unlikely to have time / means to visit forum during that period, let alone have time to participate in a C or A TP mission.

2. My 7C call sign is pretty well bombed up with MOR ammunition (hasn’t fired in the last two engagements). Given its proximity to A TP vehicles happy to include it in the ammunition levelling process.

I guess I'm getting OTJT in truck driving?

Mission 5 Briefing:

Mission:

Bypassing Auetal (still under enemy control), Apache is to quickly exploit the opening in the enemy defences. Push aggressively to Phaseline Retribution creating a hole for follow on forces to use, destroy any enemy armour you may encounter and prepare to continue the attack to 1) Bad Nenndorf or 2) Stadthagen. We believe the enemy is thinly spread in the AO, so pushing through a single point of your choice should be doable!

Support:

Artillery and mortar support is low on this mission as the firing units are low on ammunition. HE and SM are available. Also our F-111s are kept in the air to support you with guided 500lb bombs. They will be on station from the beginning of the mission!

2/G is still under your control for any engineering needs.

Muleskinner has sent in a supply convoy of 3 HEMMTs with escorting units. Moving with this unit are the M1 damaged in last mission, repaired and ready for action, and the replacement M113 FO from Bandit Troop. With the HEMMTs you should rearm as many units of Apache troop as you can for mission 6!

Other:

The enemy is firing a lot of illumination in the AO as they soon noticed they have no chance against our TI in the pitch black and they know we will be continuing the attack. The visibility is still poor, but light level is higher than when we pushed to Auetal. This means the enemy will see us better than last mission, but the TI advantage is still there!

You have 90 minutes to complete the mission/push as far as you can/dare in that timelimit.

Questions?

PS. The map may look a bit different if manteuffel has the time to edit it for sunday (in which case I will replace the map with the new one and adjust the mission accordingly)!

I was looking at the mission 5 battlefield on Google Earth and found a patriot battery near reinsdorf. I wonder if that site was there in 1988? With no patriots of course but maybe some anti aircraft missles or guns or maybe an artillery position? If so could be added in mission 5:)
