Last saturday, I went to Stonne to check out the two roadguards.(Pics below) The AMX-13 has a shorter hull because the engine is in forward position. Plus the SK-105 got no mudguard for the glacis and is made of plates wich gives it a fairly rectangular shape. I remember we once had to paint some strip of grass in the barracks green (no money to water the grass, but enough money to buy "paint for renovation purposes") for such a reason. I'm not surprised if you are in a culture that rewards to not report problems. Of course the Bundeswehr will strongly deny that they have a culture of sweeping problems under the rug.
