Dongle got mad!

Hi!

I bought the 25 $ upgrade, found the download page

http://www.esimgames.com/Downloads.htm#Steel%20Beasts%20Pro%20PE%202.370%20Beta

and slowly tried to patch the game and the stick.

Now, neither SB or my stick likes me, so I was bound to get into trouble....

First the stick won't accept my new licence...

Code1.jpg

(I've allowed Java to do it's tricks.)

And when I try to update the stick...

Code2.jpg

Code3.jpg

I understand I must get the stick to be in a better mood before I

even try to patch the sim, but now I don't know what to do...

If I open the CM RunTimeServer I can se my original 2.328 licence

and the stick seem to be working fine.

Any suggestions?

It may be a matter of updating the firmware, actually. With the old CodeMeter runtime software, start the CodeMeter Control Center (it's in the CM program group of the Windows Start Menu, or right-click the CM tray icon (while the stick is plugged in), then select the first entry, "Show").

Once that you are there, click the circular arrow, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Then uninstall the old CodeMeter runtime software. Install the new one. Update the license. Run the installer for 2.538, then the 2.552 patch.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys, but I reluctantly have to confess

I don't understand anything about the stick or CM.

Here are my start menu options:

Code5.jpg

And my Tray ones:

Code6.jpg

If I use the Event Viewer it says:

Code7.jpg

(Showing that IP number won't be a problem, right?)

If I try to Update through EventViewer / Process / Update CM Stick Firmvare

it asks me for the password for my stick, which I've never even used or seen.

I know I did something wrong somewhere, but I've deliberately tried to

muck about as little as possible with the stick and Code Meter.

As things are now I can't uninstall or upgrade the CM, but the stick itself

seems ok.

1. Try the firmware update again, using the password "CodeMeter" (note the capital letters).

2. If the firmware update is successful, uninstall SB and the CM software.

3. Reboot

4. This step is optional.

Remove the CM stick from the computer and deleted any left over folders and files in:

  • \Program Files\CodeMeter
  • \Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\eSim Games
  • \Documents and Settings\<USER>\My Documents\eSim Games
  • \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\eSim Games

This will delete any custom missions and mods you have added to SB but it may also prevent any possible anomalies from being caused by old/new file compatibility issue.

5. Download the latest codemeter software (v4.3b), SB v2.538, SB v2.546, and SB v2.552

6. Install in this order:

  1. SB v2.538 (do not install the CM software that is included with this)
  2. SB v2.546
  3. SB v2.552
  4. CM software v4.3b

7. Plug in the CM stick, start up the CM program, and then apply the new license.

Yes, that will work too.

I understand that v2.546 has become redundant but I deliberately included it to avoid confusion. It also avoids having to explain why it's not necessary over and over again.

Any particular reason why you prefer installing the CM runtimes first?

Yes:

In the subsequent installs you can then simply abort the CM installation, so it saves a little time. Also you don't end up with multiple CM runtime installations if you happen to install the old runtimes accidentally by reflexively clicking "Yes" and "OK" buttons without paying attention.

Ah, I thought there was a technical reason unknown to me as to why it is best to install the CM runtimes before SB. Specific to Flak's situation, it really doesn't matter when the CM software is installed, as long as you don't install the latest without uninstalling the older version... as he found out the hard way.
