Modable Callsign help

Okey I need help regarding how to change the C/S in the mission editor.

In the release notes it states it should be used with the "Apply if" function.

But I don't understand the logic of the Apply if. Last night TGIF (that my SB crashed for twice?) had moded C/S, so I opened it and had a look in the C/S file and have pretty much copied it but, both in appearance and the Apply If condition. Still no Joy.

So can any intellectual tell me how to get the moded C/S file in use?

The setup I have done is attached for you to look at.

Regards KT

When you start up the editor, the PE default callsigns is applied automatically. When you want to change to something else, you need NOT to click "new" in the callsign menu (for blue or red), but rather the PE default one, which will open up the default PE callsigns. Then import what you wish.

The callsign menu works so, that you can have many callsign templates per side per mission. The top ones in the list get highest priority. So when you still got the PE defaults as 1st in the list, and that one applies to all companies and platoons, the new ones you set up will not show. But once you import something else in place of the defaults it starts to rock.

Example on multiple templates:

replace the PE defaults with something. Apply it to companies 1-5.

Then add a new one and apply it to companies 1-16.

The units will now be named so that template 1 will name companies 1-5 because it's higher in the list than template 2 that will now name companies 6-16...

If more graphical presentation is needed, will do one later =)

OK so I think I understand Zip's explanation.

The bit about the lost Greek tour guide I have no idea. ;)

However how do we apply it in a more complex environment?

E.g. Grenny's MN BG engagement?

We have a US Coy (I guess they could use the default) then with them is a UK Sqn Gp (which use the "right" designations), then we have Germans beside them.

Can I select a bunch of units (say the Brits) and say apply template X?

Or do I need to list every unit and say units 1 - x = US

x+1 to z = UK

z+1 to .... = German

???

No doubt there's a chapter in this on the manual coming out (or perhaps an upcoming Wiki entry)?

that's where the "apply if" come into play! :)

You will have to make sure the different country's are in respective company.

So lets say:

1-3 Coy is DE

4-6 Coy is UK

7-9 Coy is US

then you choose the C/S in the export list that fit respective country.

so the DE.cst will be "apply if" 1 <= 3 Coy

then pic the UK.cst and "apply if" 4 <= 6 Coy. etc.

That's how I figure it works from zips explenation atleast, and it make sense to! (how rare isn't it?)

Back on topic, tried this still haven't a clue.

How do I give a vehicle a designation (or is a vehicle classed as a "team").

How do I get a vehicle to have either numbers and letters or just numbers?

e.g. In Commonwealth callsigns the commanders don't have letters, they use the callsign of the Tp / Pl.

So a Tp leader will be say 11, his Tp Sgt is 11A.

Then add to that how is this shown on a map?

I have no idea (apart from suck it and see) as to what goes on the left of the symbol and what goes on the right.

Can we get a generic mil symbol (in say the top right hand corner) that changes as we adjust these entries so we get some idea as to what its going to look like (a la "MilSketch" and a host of other Mil Symbol generators)?

Then how do I align the call sign with the vehicle (e.g. if "11A" has to be allocated to the second vehicle it doesn't act / go where the Tp Sgt goes)?

I'm sure its straight forward to those of you who have slaved over it for the last X months but like a lot of other stuff here its either not documented at all or its not very intuitive for those of us coming off a cold start.

Are there several pages devoted to this in the upcoming manual or just a paragraph that says something like ("callsigns can be tailored to suit various nationalities") which I'm sorry but is useless in terms of learning HOW to use this?

Well, you essentially specify what the sequence of strings is meant to say. Whether the first designation is the section, or the platoon, wnat kind of separators you use (if at all), which part is left of the unit icon and which is to the right.

It's really not that difficult, actually. Look at the US template and modify it, to see what the effect is.

I kinda hoped that someone would post a guide in the Wiki. Maybe one of the beta testers could do it. My right wrist is painfully close to a carpal tunnel syndrome these days.

Sorry not trying to aggravate the injury. :)

All I'm trying to get is:

Tp icon with 11 on the right hand side (no letters)

Within that, Vehicle icons with:

11

11A

11B

11D

On the right hand side.

I don't need anything on the left of the mil symbol and I don't need any separators

Well what is "11" is it Platoon/company?

No its Sqn then Tp so:

11 = 1 Tp, A Sqn

11 = Tp Ldr, 1 Tp, A Sqn

11A = Alpha vehicle in 1 Tp, A Sqn

12 = Tp Ldr, 2 Tp, A Sqn

...

If we go to B Sqn the leading "1" becomes a "2"

So 21 (with 21A as a vehicle in 21), 22, etc.

Got the PM btw, will follow it up.

Of course ideally this would be written up somewhere by "someone". ;)
