My bridge/obstacle crossing tactic

Hi all.

Here is how i cross bridges/obstacles, without the AI getting wet.

See attached picture for better understanding.

1) Create a route from WP1 to WP2, end the route by right-clicking on the mouse, set the formation to whatever you like.

Remember to place WP2 atleast 100m BEFORE the obstacle/bridge.

2) Right click the mouse on WP2, and continue the route through the obstacle/over the bridge, order Column formation.

3) Place WP3 AT LEAST 100m AFTER the obstacle/bridge, and order any formation you like.

If done correct, the AI will drive in combat formation from WP1 to WP2, then change to column formation, drive through the obstacle/over the bridge, like ducks on a row, and then at WP3 change to combat formation.

Now do it under direct enemy fire, and artillery on your side of the bridge. In the case of a bieber sometimes you cannot route in column formation depending on how it is laid or the ground near it or ai will get wet if in formation. You must divide into individual callsigns carefully cross one at a time then get back together on the other side. Basicly what you said times 4. You may have to coordinate the hand of of callsigns to other players on your team to quicken this process if they are not busy on overwatch duty. Sometimes tanks might get stuck or damaged blocking the bridge. A few tanks might have to get wet to get the rest across if recovery assets are not available.

Helps to put the spacing on wide as well. I've routed whole plts across portable bridges many times with no problems.

In most cases this is true. Recently in a 1st CAD session We did a couple bridge crossings with a Bieber while under fire. We had broken bridges with gaps out near the far side of the bridge and the bieber was to fill the gap. While trying to route units in column formation the ai kept getting tanks stuck at the transition from bridge to Bieber. Some made it across in formation and some tanks got wet or stuck. Maybe the ai driver twiches a bit when coming to a hole in the bridge that has been replaced with a Bieber.

When used at normal river crossings on land with no bridges tanks have no problem with column formation with Biebers.
