CodeMeter Problem - Can't run SBPro

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I’m getting a CodeMeter error when I try to open SBPro the text of the error is:

“CodeMeter error: Please ensure your CM stick is securely in a USB port”

Everything was fine this afternoon but this evening this error appeared.

I did some research in this forum and found some post similar but not exactly the same. It looks like there is no license information on the CM stick.

Any help would be much appreciated since I can't run SBPro.

Eric

Here’s some info from CodeMeter that might help diagnose this problem:

I don't think that this is a configuration issue, if you just read the log entries:

2012-09-05 01:05:24: Detecting CmContainer with Serial Number 2-1638848

2012-09-05 01:05:24: Box Event HW59-507 (1638848) occurred.

2012-09-05 01:05:24: API Event WB0059 (MEMORY DAMAGED) occurred (returned to caller)

That being said, it still makes sense to complete the diagnostic routines in a systematic manner instead of jumping to conclusions.

Hello Ssnake,

Yeah, I noticed that memory damaged message too. I checked the security software and found that it allows CodeMeter the connection it needs. I can't find out how to check the port by number though. everything I did find was normal.

Could the stick be damaged in some way? What can I do to replace it or reload the license data on to it? What's my next step?

Thanks,

Eric

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello again.

Ssnake walked me through what info he needed to diagnose my problem. Turned out that the memory on my old CM stick had been destroyed. eSims sent me a new one. But.......I get the same error. I ran CmDUST again and sent him the output and I know he'll get back to me. In the meantime does anyone out there have any tips on what I can do? Have you had the same problem? How did it get fixed?

I notice messages in the CmDUST output saying "Removable Device state has been changed!" (the CM stick is being seen as a local drive) if this is an issue does anyone know how to make a local drive in Win7 'removable'? I've looked all over and haven't found anything yet?

Also, i noticed that even though I downloaded and installed the 64bit version of the CoeMaster runtime apps only the 32bit version is running. Does that matter?

Thanks

Eric

Depending on your Windows version, you should install only one version or the other. In fact, I don't think that you can install the 64 bit runtime on a 32 bit system, or the 32 bit runtime on a 64 bit Windows.

But you should probably make sure that this is not the source of your trouble. WRT your emails, I'll be responding to them later today.

Hello Ssnake,

I'm running Win7 Pro. I just uninstalled the CodeMeter runtime package, downloaded the one called "CodeMeterRuntime64" and installed it. It wrote files to the Program Files dir (64bit apps). But it put the bin dir in Program Files(x86) where 32bit apps go...'C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin'. And, Task Manager shows it's running in 32bits. It looks like this is a nice little bug on their part. Could it possibly be causing my issues?

Thanks,

Eric

It's perfectly fine for a 32 bit process to run on a 64 bit system. It's not a bug. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to decipher the debug log, I'm sure the codemeter guys will be able to tell you what's going on.

In the mean time, I would check some things on your side. Make sure that if you plug something else into that same USB plug, it works. If you move it to another usb plug are the errors the same? Is the plug mounted on the motherboard? If not, can you move it to one that is mounted on the motherboard?

Make sure the computer itself is plugged into a outlet that is properly grounded. If you don't know how to check this, you can buy a electrical plug checker at your local hardware store for around $5. For a dollar or two more, they have ones you can use to verify your GFCI outlets work properly.

No, I don't. I assume you are referring to the debug log note about the removable device state changing. I see it in my debug log too. Don't worry about it.

Are you seeing the exact same error about memory damaged? After dealing with this for six years now, this is the first time I have heard of it. The fact that this has happened again with a replacement stick raises red flags about the hardware you are running. Do you have another computer or laptop you can try it on? How did you check that the outlet was grounded correctly?

No, the new stick if just fine...no memory damage messages. Ssnake really gave me some great customer service in the whole process of getting the replacement stick. Interestingly when I look at the license info there's no mention of eSimsGames. But, this might be normal, I never looked at it earlier. This is a weird one indeed. All was well until I booted up one day and opened SBPro and the first error message appeared. When I get a chance to post my observations about and whishlist for SBPro one of my wishes will be for a software based security system instead of a dongle....just a wish of course.

If there is no licenses on the stick, Nils can easily help you fix that.

Earlier, you posted that you got the same error with the new stick, which is why I asked what I did. If you want to get to get up and running today, I can set you up with one of my licenses to borrow. Send me a PM if you are interested.

I think we will be with the codemeter system one in form or another from here on out. Any protection system will cause a certain degree of hassle to end users and to those providing customer service, I can't argue with that. I also can appreciate how your experience with this one makes you feel about it. Options were presented to the community and fully discussed when it was selected in 2006. It was the least of the evils available at the time.
