No sorry should have explained the "legend"

"Purple" = currently active fires (heat plumes) assessed as warranting attention detected by the satellite's last pass.

So "brand new" fires

"Red" = currently active fires (heat plumes) assessed as warranting attention detected by the satellite in the previous 12 hours.

Fires that have established themselves.

"Yellow" = currently active fires (heat plumes) assessed as warranting attention detected by the satellite in the previous 12-24 hours.

Fires that have been established for up to 24 hours and are ongoing.

So this tracks fires by "age" and location (you can zoom in from 1:20,000,000 to 1:10,000).

Well I'm on a HMAS vessel until Sunday.

I'm gob smacked that it has Internet access - using it now.

However don't have a headset.

Depending on the plan for Thursday (here) I maybe able to join (Thursday is transiting) but will be via built in mic/speakers and network connection will be Hamachi back to my desktop and then connecting to you across a satellite link (no idea about the bandwidth).

So in short, yes will try to join but no idea how successful it will be. :)

There was recently a UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch report on the grounding of a commercial vessel that found the watch keeper was using the digital chart display to browse porn sites on the web. instead of navigating :) or should it be :( ?

Well the answer is it wont be.

I can ping the Hamachi server (where the dongle is) but its averaging 1200ms.

So I can't even launch the copy of 2.654 on the laptop, let alone hope to connect to a MP session.

Hope it goes well anyway. :)

Sorry, can I ask?

What is an Army Officer doing on a Navy Warship?

Are they giving you a lift to Perth or something?

I know that place is frontier territory but that is kinda taking the Michael!

Sure its called "Joint".

Army, Navy and Air Force often do things TOGETHER. :)

We've done it before at places a bit nearer to you, like:

Normandy in 1944

Hastings in 1066 (Air Force didn't turn up for that)

A couple of places on the Channel coast a bit earlier still with guys called Julius Caeser and Claudius.

Oh and the Americans dabled with it from 1941 to 1945 near here too (but they cheated by calling their Army guys Marines). :)
