Connaugh
From the 05/11/18 Ad-Hoc Game.   BATTLE OF KARAMEH - War of Attrition - 1968 by Connaugh  The Battle of Karameh was a military engagement between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and combined forces of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) in the Jordanian town of Karameh on 21 March 1968, during the War of Attrition   SITUATION:  PLO forces have taken the border town of Karameh, Jordan, as their headquarters and have stepped their attacks on Israel and Israeli-occupied territories. The IDF desires to destroy the fedayeen camps at Karameh  and Safi and capture Yasser Arafat and punish Jordan for its perceived support of the fedayeen.   MISSION:  Israeli Armored Forces and Heli-borne Paratroopers are to launch a four-pronged attack on the town and eliminate the PLO fedayeen.   EXECUTION:  Northern Force:   60 Brigade: (1 x Sho't Kal platoon, 1 x M113 section) is to cross the Damiya Bridge and capture Musri and then advance south to Karameh.  Central Force:       7 Brigade: ( 3 x Sho't Kal platoons, 1 x M113 platoon) is to cross the Allenby Bridge, sending one platoon to Karameh, a second platoon to capture                                                Al Shunat Nimrin   and to a blocking position east of the town.  A third platoon is to assist the Southern Force if needed.  Southern Force:   80 Brigade:  (1 x Sho't Kal platoon, 1 x M113 section) is to cross the Abdullah Bridge, capture Safi and advance to Karameh.  Paratrooper Force:                    (3 x Chinook Helicopters) is to conduct an air assault on Karameh  with Central Force.   3 Batteries of Artillery Support (18 Tubes) are available.  Jordanian Armored forces are equipped with M60 tanks and are expected to act as a quick-reaction force. Infantry are equipped with anti-tank weapons. Jordanian artillery is expected. So, keep moving.   COORDINATING INSTRUCTIONS:  Bridges are defended by Infantry and Armor. Player is to utilize smoke and artillery accordingly. Karameh has civilians, so no artillery can be used on the town. Trigger 1 activates the Paratroopers when Commander is ready for the assault on Karameh. After landing, player will have control of troops but troops already have paths set for the assault. Arafat will surrender when Israeli troops enter the Mosque in Karameh. Messages will be generated when objectives are captured. Points scored for capturing Musri, Safi, Al Shunat Nimrin, Karameh, and Arafat.  120 minute time limit   7 Brigade crossing the Allenby Bridge     7 Brigade encountering Jordanian Armor    80 Brigade capturing Safi    60 Brigade capturing Musri    Assault on Karameh      Assault on Al Shunat Nimrim    Paratrooper Assault on Karameh       Edited May 12, 2018 by Connaugh

The northern force was from the reserve 80th paratroopers brigade, with 9 AML-90s, 13 M51 Shermans (indeed from the reserve 60th armored brigade) and 4 Centurions. Its mission was to isolate the Karama sector from the north by blocking the Al-Misri junction. The southern force was from the 7th armored brigade, with 40 of its Centurions, tasked with isolating the Karama sector from the south by blocking the roads from Shunat Nimrin and Kufrein. The heliborne (Super Frelons and S-58s) infantry's mission was to land on the ridges east of Karama and engage terrorists fleeing from the town.  The main trouble the IDF encountered was that many AFVs got stuck in the terribly muddy ground at the northern and southern sectors, while exposed to the Jordanian army positions. The infantry vehicle was the M3 halftrack, as there were no M113s in IDF service yet (although some were captured from the Jordanian army in 1967).  The fighting in Safi (and in Feifa, Dhakhel and Wadi Khanzira) was a separate operation, conducted by the 401st armored brigade (M48A3s) under the Southern Command. Perfect execution with no losses, as opposed to the Central Command's operation.
