Moderators Volcano Posted October 10, 2013 Moderators Share Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) Did the Israeli's use those "US centric" Platoon markers (<, > , ^, etc.) in 1973? They aren't US centric markings, they mean something else IIRC. And also, those textures are how they appear in the game already, so the question should not be addressed to him, but rather to me (of course you didn't know though) -- so I will try to help with a better answer. I did quite a bit of research on the markings and made them exactly as they were, but to explain them I looked up the material again here...: Number of gun tube rings: battalion # Number of horizontal stripes on rear of vehicle (if present): battalion # Chevron direction: company # (unlike US where this is PLT #) Large number on side of turret: PLT # Large Hebrew letter on side of turret: vehicle # Edited October 10, 2013 by Volcano correction
Gibsonm
Ah so they are just a little bit different enough to add to the confusion! I just couldn't recall if they were IDF practice in '73 or not. Of course if they are "built in" then it doesn't matter (just work around them if they shouldn't be there or work with them if they are). IIRC you can't change that anyway (one vehicle is a clone of the next) so at least we wont get people complaining that A Coy vehicle should have "<" and B Company ">", or whatever the correct markings should be.
RENEGADE-623
IIRC, they were created during desert storm to help identify friendly units among the coalition forces.

Captain_Colossus
Not always-One has to assume that units themselves would paint individual markings to their vehicles, they aren't necessarily issued that way. As such, they won't always conform to some specification or another, if they received a vehicle from reservists rushing up to the front, or vehicles from one decimated unit reformed into another for instance, they do with whatever is on hand.

After reading your post I started thinking playable AMX-13, M48, M3 half-track, Willys jeep (recce), M51 Super Sherman etc. Not saying I want them or don't want them, just that I think you'd need some, if not all, to do the period justice...

I for one would happily hand out another forty euro/dollars though.

I feel like some of the vehicles in game already have this.
