lerxster
How do I get the 50 cal to move in it's vertical axis (in F3 view)? Horizontal no problem and the AI commander has no problems blow squishies to pieces! What am I missing?Cheers!

daskal
You have to keep on pressing them multiple times - this simulates cranking it manually. If you just hold down the arrow key buttons nothing is going to happen.
oscar19681
What makes me wonder in real life is the commander able to crack the .50 up and down from and fire it from a a fully unbuttended posistion?
Members Ssnake
What makes me wonder in real life is the commander able to crack the .50 up and down from and fire it from a a fully unbuttended position? In the M1A1, which is modelled in Steel Beasts, you can't fire the cal .50 from the unbuttoned position. John Wayne would only have fun with the M1A2. In the M1A1 the heavy machine gun is operated from the buttoned-up position through the commander's weapon station - with hand crank for elevation and powered traverse.

Tibbs
What makes me wonder in real life is the commander able to crack the .50 up and down from and fire it from a a fully unbuttended posistion?Yes. It does require you to be part contortionist and have mastered the "pat-your-head-and-rub-your-tummy" manuever!

AllenInWV
eSim should really model it with a poorly adjusted equilibrator too.
MAJ_Fubar
eSim should really model it with a poorly adjusted equilibrator too. Well that's an easy fix. All I need are a couple adjustable wrenches and I'll just...oh...wait, never mind...
Moderators Volcano Posted April 12, 2008 Moderators Share Posted April 12, 2008 It should also model when the cylinoid does not extend far enough to press the butterfly trigger when you need it to, so you end putting a bundle of MRE tissue paper between it.

Tibbs
Equilibrator= hydraulic cylinder used for elevation/depression of .50 mountSolenoid= electric actuator that engages the trigger of the .50100mph tape= green duct tape issued in the US Army, good for EVERYTHING!
Apocalypse 31
What makes me wonder in real life is the commander able to crack the .50 up and down from and fire it from a a fully unbuttended posistion? You can easily traverse it. It operates on an electric handswitch that can be removed and operated from the unbuttoned position. But forget about aiming or elevation.
dejawolf
well, what you are able to fire it from an "open protected" position in real life. under the gun, theres a forward and rear sight for aiming.
Moderators Volcano Posted April 13, 2008 Moderators Share Posted April 13, 2008 You may as well dismount it, lay it on top of a duffel bag on top of the turret and fire it that way too. But there is a line between modeling something physically possible and modeling something that is practical. BTW, that forward sight is designed to be used with your head poking out of the hatch while looking in the forward vision block. You would still be able to operate it fully if you wanted to use that sight but you probably would not hit anything.

PS-SCUD
Maybe SB should make you PMCS your vehicle and set headspace and timing on the M2 before starting a mission.
Tibbs
Loved that! When some soldier wasn't thinking clearly... "Check your headspace and timing!"
Members Ssnake
I just had a vision of repair points visualized as heaps of olive green tape rolls, and crew repairs of all the components in your vehicle by applying the tape to whatever needs fixing.

AllenInWV
I just finished reclassifying into my new MOS (in the Army National Guard)......45B, Small Arms Repair. It's amazing how many things can be fixed with a couple of smart raps from a hammer.
