Exactly 70 years ago this day - 26 Oct 1944 marked the end of the biggest tank battle in Hungary during WW2 near Debrecen/Hortobagy. There are quite a few pictures taken during this event - and since we were there today just walking around, I felt tempted just to visit some of the places that were on the photos. Here is one - exactly 70 years ago there were some Panthers and King Tigers (with "Porsche" turret) passing through here:

Those would be great images to show during any debate about defense spending in Hungary, those, and maybe some showing T-tanks on the same street.

You'd need to be careful which T-tanks you showed.

T-54 and T-55 might bring back memories of 1956.

T-72 variants would reflect current day Hungarian equipment.

Two Apaches carying two marines each on each side, that make sens.

I think this is something that Apache air crews train or at least very familiar with.

I know from an incident very similar in 2007, South of Ramadi Iraqi.

An Apache crew evacuated one of our Soldiers from the Battle of Donkey Island. The air crew put him in the helicopter and the other while one of the two pilots strapped themselves to the wing in the same manner as the Royal Marines.

Jamaledine was later evacuated by an Apache helicopter, one of whose pilots, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Allen Crist, gave his seat to Jamaledine and rode strapped to the aircraft's exterior.

Meanwhile, Lauer, out of his Humvee, had been shot in the shoulder and was pinned down in a ditch.
