UK mech infantry organization

Anyone know what the equipment load-out for a British mechanized (Warrior) infantry platoon is? For example, X ATGM weapons (of what?), and Y number of RPGs (of what?), and how many LMGs (of what caliber?). Maybe this info is top secret too... :sonic:

ATGMs, Heavy stuff, Snipers, Specialists etc tends to be kept in the support platoon of the company.

But it was Milan and is now moving to Javelins. (No idea how many each team carried)

RPG's used to be either M72 LAWS or the LAW 80, now moving to NLAW(duh) Possibly 2 per section/vehicle, not sure.

LMGs = Used to be 1 off each Minimi/LSW (Both 5.56mm), is now 2 x Minimi's

Thing you need to bear in mind Vman is the Army circulates the regiments throiugh the different roles. So "Y" years Regiment "X" will be light inf, next "Y" years it will be Armoured.

If you can get hold of Fidel, he'll be able to tell you with more authority, as he is an ex-warrior dude.

But I don't think he's been army for 5-10+ years.

That's not quiet correct RAC Regts rotate through RAC type roles (Tk, Recce, etc.) with the odd stint as dismounts for things like Northern Ireland, etc.

Inf Bns tend to stay in role too.

The Black Watch Bn for example, doesn't go from Inf to tank and then back to Inf again. :)

Pretty sure Inf Bn's rotate through their various roles, too, which is what I was trying to say. (Maybe I wasn't specific enough?)

So, for example, Black Watch will spend "X" years (Think its 10ish) as Light Inf role, then "X" years as Mech Inf role, then "X" years as Armoured Inf role, then back to Light Inf role.

So when I said Armoured, I meant Armoured Infantry.

Going from Inf to Tanks is bit of a leap. :)

Thanks for the answers, I will wade through it here and see if I have any more questions.

Check CMSF: British Forces. It's very accurate in terms of OOB and TOE...?

I would if I had it but I don't want to buy it just for that.

I don't suppose you could post something at platoon level for it -- probably too much to ask though.

May be this will help:

-comparison of 1940s and 1990s british infantry platoons(taken from "The Ultimate Weaponry" by Paddy Griffith, London 1995- somekind of "art of war for dummies" book). I don't think that things changed too much since 90s. SA80-series light support weapon is changed with kind of FN Minimi LMG now and LAW80s are gone probably...

Thanks everyone, that should do it! Very useful info all.

BTW, I am using this information for a template scenario that I am creating that I will share with the community at some point.

V, The rifle group/gun group split was maintained in the "SLR era" so probably 1960 to 1990
