Upcoming Modified Triades_Flussebene Map

I've been working on two maps in order to learn map editing. One is a rather large map, which will take me a while yet to finish. The other is a smaller map but one of my favorites in SBPE. I am just about done with it and thought I'd share some screenshots with you all so you can see the progress. I started out wanting a map to make scenarios using Russian equipment against the same, something which would allow me to make scenarios based on the break-up of Yugoslavia. It has now turned into something which could be used for a NATO vs Warsaw Pact set of scenarios. Something that had a bit of hills, valleys, plains, urban areas and maybe a river or two. One of my favorite maps is Triades_Flussebene...the map where the three Byto missions are played on. I've always liked this map for the terrain type and overall atmosphere. The original maker did a wonderful job of setting a tone. I have also always thought it could use some sprucing up in terms of detail and tidying up. I wanted to add stuff like more urban areas, more detailed farms, flesh out the forests and road network. I wanted to add two major bridges across that big river in the west which would make for some interesting river crossing, assault scenarios.

Anyway, here are some screenshots of the modified map. I am expecting to release it soon.

Notice how many more farms and agriculural fields I've added.

Thanks to all who commented.

Yes, as mentioned, I wanted to improve and create on a map which would give a scenario maker a diverse set of terrain characteristics. Something which could pass for northern Europe or Yugoslavian-Slovenian territory. The more I work on it, the more it has improved IMHO. I have learned much from working on this map and the other I'm doing. Very powerful tool Esim has given us.

The map looks very familiar. I want to say the original had focused on bridge ops. Or perhaps I have seen it on a tutorial video (youtube). Hmm...at any rate, thanks for retouching it some.

Couldn't have focussed on bridge operations. On the original map, there are no bridges and the peninsula on the other side of the river is empty with the exception of forests. I added the bridges, I'm adding road networks and villages plus one city on that peninsula. There is also a wind farm on that peninsula, you can actually see it in the distance across the river from one of the new cities I added on the other side. The old map was basically used for the "Byto missions" as mentioned. The land area of the map populated with stuff was on the western part of the map but on eastern shore of river. I've populated the whole map now with villages, cities, farm fields, and used the newer, better looking objects we've received from various updates.

I'll post more screenshots as work progresses to show the difference.

Very nice indeed. I'm thinking a Soviet airborne assault on that nice, long bridge in support of a forward detachment...

Good idea! :drink: Yeah, the river is really not used on the old map and I thought it would make for some interesting scenarios if bridges were addes etc. You've read my mind.

Lots of pssibilities Enigma look forward to a release, any idea on an estimated release date mate. Thanks again sure it has already taken many hours of work.

Hi Wardog,

Frankly, I'd say it pretty much done now. I'm starting to add more road signs and such to round out the little detail but debating about how much I add. I want to keep in somewhat generic so one can use it for various European scenarios if one wishes. You know, not have American road signs in a European setting. :) I'm kind of taking a step back now and see what else needs to be added, what should I not add. I'm shooting for releasing this modified map at middle of May, end of May. I want to have it ready for use for when the next upgrade comes out. I'm sure we will have a plethora of scenario making taking place after that.

Great looking map. Looking forward to sweeping across it with the Markovski Regiment. And conducting various defensive missions with UK Armour.

Thanks Tjay. Yeah, there are a lot of possibilities with this map as modified. You have hills, small mountains which will not screw with AI drivers coming down the roads on them too fast...plus of course great observation points for the offensive or defensive teams. Open fields for mechanized manuever. Small villages for small strongpoints, larger urban strongpoints for better defensive positions. Forests, thick to hide ambush forces. And of course, a river obstactle to cross or assault.

Was doing some testing last night with some vehicles and setting up 2km visibility plus some haze in a morning light. IMHO it looked very, very good. Looking thorough my binoculars, in the distant haze at a church steeple sticking up through that haze gave it a very, very cool "Wow" moment. I've already got some ideas for some cool scenarios.

The modified map is ready. I will upload it to SBPE site in the next few days. The basic map design was done by S. Vogt and all credit is due him. I only took the basic map, cleaned it up and added additional stuff like cities, 3 bridges across the river, farms.

There is a link to a slideshow of more screenshots down at bottom of this post in case you want to look at more pics of modified map. I hope it gets used. Took a lot of work but have learned much and am starting on a new map that DarkAngel started.

Meanwhile here are some screenshots of the final version.
