Thermal viewer and differences in SBP

I was wondering if in real life if there is any difference in the thermal viewer exepct for the crosshairs offcourse. The only difference i see in steel beasts pro is with the bradley. Do for example the m1a1 leo1 + 2 strv122 etc etc have the exact same thermal equipment?

Well all the tanks in SB use the same generation of TIS.

Which means in SB they all use the same TIS graphical wotsit.

The differences in real life is they'd have different manufacturers and therefore have differnet mountings and minor shit like that.

The vehicles in SB that use different TIS systems are:

The Badley and the CV90, though maybe the leo1 should have the CV90 TIS, given that its a retro fit and a newer system than M1 and leo2A4s, dunno about the A5 tho

If you wanna get all in depth about it, ask Ssnake, given he helped write the program etc.

We're trying to replicate the different systems as good as we can though we're limited by certain details being kept secret. For example, we're using 8 bit greyscale textures for the thermal view though in reality it seems that many thermal imagers use four or five bit greyscales which makes target recognition a bit easier.

We don't know the signal to noise ratios of the different sensors, so we apply "a bit" of noise "until it feels about right".

We are using an image resolution that the real sensor has (provided that our customers tell us the truth). That is, we render the thermal image into a texture of the resolution that the real sensor has - typically TV, half-TV, or quarter-TV resolution - which will then be upscaled to the resolution of your screen. That way the actual information that is being provided to the player is the same as in the real vehicle.

And, of course, we are using the same field of view and the reticule patterns that the real sensors have (again, provided that these aren't classified data, in which case we're using estimates that seem to be most likely).

@Hedgehog: Leopard1A5 and Leo2 have basically the same TIS, as they share a related FCS as well. And no, the TIS was not changed when the A5/A6 upgrade was done for the Leopard 2. There is now an upgrade proposal by Rheinmetall to change the PERI and the GPS to the latest gen of TIS, including CCD cameras and own laser for the TC: http://www.rheinmetall-detec.de/index.php?fid=4659〈=3

This is something IMO the Bundeswehr should buy for the small active Leo fleet. The USA also see the need to change from the crappy TIS to the 2nd gen FLIR offered with the AIM and SEP packages.
