Level of detail even in rural areas... This is Kuikkavaara farm 10km SW from Suomussalmi, along Road 5 to Hyrynsalmi. Near it is a swamp that translates Cockswamp. And not as in "rooster". Gotta love the people who named these places. :D

These images are from a map called Kouvostoliitto, that will come with version 3.0. The town of Elimäki in southern Finland. Some may recognize it as the one we drove through in the T-72 campaign, that lasted only a few missions because the FO decided to kill the CO with artillery-fire... ;)

Shut your face you! :)

As I recall only his radio and tracks were knocked out.

And the turret was popped, but otherwise I was all good ;)

That wasn't me, I only had HE & smoke, & a useless BMP-1

(Harsh Language would have been more effective).

That was probably a T-80U Love Letter.

I can't remember the specifics of how the CO (AKA Zip) died.

(Too busy dealing with my personal shit-storm. I.E. Packing up and running away ASAP :) )

But I know we lost 4,5,6 T-72s killed by T80s just after we got across that bridge in the South-East?

I remember that cos I was hiding in those houses next to the river. (See above)

I dunno its all a bit hazy, need to dig out the AAR.

But I am certain I didn't kill a T-72 with Arty.

Edit:

Yeah just been over with Goole Maps:

It was a complete cluster to the North East, so we weren't going that way. And we went more to the South East down the 354 (Off to the right of those screenies) and then North throught the power line clearings, which is where we had a *ahem* supporting fire mishap *ahem*

Does that sound right, Zip?

So where are the craters? - "totally flawed" ;)

OK, so the commander needed an LZ in the town of Vuohijärvi. We heard a local terrorist with access to Stinger missile was spotted in the town, so we went in with mech first, to search and destroy. Ahead of us a recon team crawled into position to overwatch the whole operation.

We went in dismounted, with vehicles following close by.

Sure enough, we ran into the tango, who in panic pulled out his AK fired at our pointman at very close range. Tauski got hit, but the CV was quick and dropped the bugger before he could fire more. As we reported that the town was clear, the choppers arrived with troops to secure the surroundings and we also got our casualty to medical care. (Oh yes, and the choppers actually landed and troops dismounted from them ;))

What about static shadows?I would think that only having shadows on moving objects and the rest of the map gets static shadows would increase performance by large amount.I think that the brain doesn't notice shadows in different directions if you don't actually look for them.As example Arma3 is about to ship with reversed vehicle mirrors and very few people noticed something was wrong.Whenever you backup though you get super disorientated yet the old brain doesn't register it exactly as mirrors being reversed but instead just "feels" off somehow.

I have complete confidence that our programmers know what they are doing.
