wow, there is certainly a big difference in those screens... This example in itself shows that this should be used by everyone who plays this sim:

BEFORE

SS_11_39_42.jpg

AFTER

SS_11_39_47.jpg

It even adds a bit of lighting to the tank...

To explain your fps loss, this mod also comes bundled with a couple of other mods. There is a reflection mod included, which should disabled in the .ini , also there is a water mod which too should be disabled...

SO yes, the file named enbseries.ini is the config file that controls all the effects and there are quite a few parameters that are adjustable but thankfully theres a readme that explains what each one does....

Good luck!!

um, no, its to simulate the natural lighting up of particles too small

for the eye to properly make out.

also every major lightsource, and light reflection blooms.

look at the "halo" around your roof lamp sometime, and you'll notice

it. its also the reason why you have excessive glare when the

sun reflects on a periscope and hits your eye for example.

it also helps to simulate HDR, which is the dynamic light difference

between high intensity light like daylight, and deeply shadowed, or

poorly lit areas like forests.

so in the presence of a strong lightsource like the sun, everything that is

poorly lit will appear much much darker.

unfortunately SB doesnt have a proper shadow engine, so the HDR

barely works right, but if working properly it'd make it even harder than

it already is to spot vehicles in a forest than it already is. especially with

a sun glaring in your eyes. it also makes dark places like the interior of houses

appear darker when you're outside than when you're inside on a sunny day.

and i'm sure you've noticed that after you've spent several hours outside,

when going back inside everything inside seems very dark.

thats HDR too.

anyways, the human eye usually adjust to these conditions very quickly, and your brain

fools you into thinking everything is lit basically the same on a sunny day.

its the same as with yellow tungsten bulb lighting appearing to be white when

you're inside, but when you step outside, you can really see how yellow it is,

especially due to all the blue colour tones.

I guess I'm missing the point of this mod. What's its purpose? To simulate cataracts?

Deja wolf is spot on, you also see it on landscapes a lot... but yes, wiki probably will explain it better than me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_rendering

Also too, if you wish to see this very exact mod used in other directx apps, but in realtime, here are some youtube clips of it being used:

This user has also enabled the MotionBlur part of this mod, and reveals his setting in his video info (mind you, turning this off will save a lot of FPS)

This is an example of it being used very well in a flight sim...The Lockon community enjoys this mod quite a bit..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sA_1MLmteNc

The user here is showcasing several games of it being used, Mafia ,manhunt etc... He also toggles it on and off in each segement for the viewer to get an idea of its effect...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWW4pjCY5FQ

If you notice in all these videos, the settings these people implemeneted really make the app run at a very acceptable FPS... making it very playable... :)

Good luck and show us some feedback!!

I may have something of a modding disability (still not able to get the maps I want back in DropTeam), but I think I should say this much, based on ParaBellum's newest screenshots: You shouldn't have this bloom mod turned up very high. Because it'll otherwise turn the tank and landscape into a dark, muddy blur, and the sky into the Apocalypse. Don't get me wrong, I think the mod's great (wish I could have contributed something useful with my first posts, instead of raising controversy and not coping well:cry:), but those who think "more is better" (yes, there are people like that) will end up destroying their own eyesight. Best to keep it subtle, because even the M1 and Leo 2 After shots (which I assume were at low) were on the point where my battle skills might have been impaired if I had had to go to the F3 view.

I tried it, the default settings are ridiculous, but very subtle ones are a bit better, except settings which are acceptable in daysight are almost nothing in TIS.

Worse, I found a large number of artifacts with the tree/bush imposters in the tank-range, where they rendered as a 'lattice' rather than as their proper texture. I never get this with the normal 9c dll, so this is a no-no for me...

My machine is marginal for frame rate and I didn't find it sufficiently enticing to keep.

GH_Lieste, you may want to try various versions before dismissing...Also too, turn off the other features to this mod, (motion blur etc...) and leave only the bloom. The author's site is right here: http://boris-vorontsov.narod.ru/download_en.htm

Like I was saying before, the people in the Lockon and rfactor community have it working flawlessly and its pretty much a staple. I believe they use one of the GTA versions... Also too, it could merely be your card or card's drivers...

And Chuikov, you are spot on....ParaBellum certainly has the settings down...

This is my fav by far!!!

sbbloom04.jpg

And with this before and after shot, it really gives the impression that SB pro has an actual lighting engine... also too, it really gives objects a lot of depth, they dont feel so static and 2d anymore...

sbbloom05.jpg

Good work!!

Glad you like them. And yes, I turned the effects down considerably. I spent another hour this afternoon and the result is the pic below.

BTW the screenshots turn out much darker than the in-game image, so I had to brighten the screenshots quite a bit. When looking at the pics I posted earlier now (night, less light in my room) I realize that they' still darker than in-game. The attached pic below shows pretty how it looks in SB.

PS: Big thanks to Von_Virus, I used his file as basis.

Of course, here's what I use right now:

Make a backup of your enbseries config file, then simply copy&paste the stuff below into the file, overwriting the original entries.

That one doesn't appear to run with the Beta?

I run it exclusively with the Beta, works just fine on my system.

Keep in mind that you have to activate the bloom mod in-game with SHIFT-F12 after you've started SB.

@Hedgehog: I changed a couple of other values besides the ones in the [bloom] section, so I just thought it was easier to post the whole thing than three-four sections of it.

It failed to run, complaining of missing d3dx9_33.dll was not found.

Using the GTAIV one I can run it in the Beta.

I tried your version and it wasn't good in external weapons views eg HMMVW M2HB.

I haven't quite given up on it though, and after some drastic tuning I found something that works for me: (YMMV, but I find this also works for the map/menus)

I am not 100% sure, but GH_Lieste and everyone else, with your configs... You may want to turn such effects like and SSAO, WATER, MOTIONBLUR, REFLECTION..COLORCORRECTION..OFF... Eventhough these effects may or may not be visually present, they still try to access the shaders involved and in turn create too many processes, lag.

Like I said before this mod comes bundled with a number effects, and the goal is to isolate the bloom-hdr lighting mod.

However I actually dont know if these other effects work or not, but if they do, and your fps is strong and healthy... by all means KEEP THEM ON!

By the way ParaBellum, again, this is an awesome shot!!!

Its very atmospheric, the landscape and especially the horizon is very authentic looking...really increases the immersion by ten-fold

I've tested this some more, and the beneficial effect is mostly the colour adjustment - I get almost as good results by maximising contrast, minimising external light sources and setting an intermediate brightness on the monitor.

The bloom setting is too easily confused by eg the camoflauge colour of the M1 mudguards, or the M1025 gunsight and bloom occurs where I really wouldn't expect it IRL. It looks nice (though I still think that all apart from the Tiger image are over-done) in external view, and in TIS, but in out-of-the-hatch views I dislike it.

Given that I feel this a simulation that you use rather than just look at and go "ooooh", and that there is a definate problem with texture corruption on trees and bushes with the mod, and some other bizarre visual effects, I'm going to use one of my 3 monitor modes for SB at reduced brightness, and ditch this mod.

As always YMMV, but this is not IMO a panacea.
