Just a small idea

I think it would be a great "addition" if trees would be more "interactive", mainly the HE rounds / Artillery strikes should have an effect on them. Trees are already "modelled" as destroyable by tanks if you ram them - the same effect should be applied when HE rounds / HE artillery hits forested areas - for example after a HE artillery strike about 20-30% of the trees should be destroyed in the target area.

Since the desctuction of the trees is already modelled - this shouldn't be too hard to implement, just apply the same effect when hit by HE as with ramming them.

Just my 2 cents.

ISTR that this was done to death before...

And the way-back machine (otherwise known as search ;) ) throws this up...

Brief summary, current artillery usage rates don't support widespread elimination of trees. Wood is surprisingly resiliant as a material....

If you really wanted an accurate depiction of HE artillery use on wooded areas, you'd place a ring of fallen leaf textures around the affected trees, but otherwise leave almost all visually unaltered ;)

Still sounds waaaay to high from reading RecceDG's posts...

WAG, but 2-3% of knocking down *one* tree from a 1 min fire mission? (unsure)

Sure, you should get a few more if you really want to go gardening, and can explain why you hate trees, as they'll be a bit weaker from the damage you already caused, but short of 406mm HC shell, you just are not going to see much effect.

From a mobility POV, the tree is as likely to be damaged higher in the canopy as at ground level, so even once very heavy shelling has eliminated the foliage from a LOS POV, you still will have to negotiate each tree as before, but wheeled vehicles and infantry are likely to find the going even worse, as there will be shattered branches, craters etc to work around and over...
