Hedgehog
Last night 23-09-2013 t'was Crusty Dark High Lord Hedgehog Hoggydog Killjoy and for the Soviets: Marko Tantal (A Polska fellow who dropped in on a spur of the moment thing, so basically, an all English outfit:) ) Anyway, we played a stock mission (I think) UKA in delayed defence. We had a blast! (The sounds really kick ass V man! Sounded like Armourgeddon at one point.) Anyway, as a brief synopsis (I'm sure the other chaps who have more time on their hands between now and Thursday can provide a few screenshots): The Scimitars lasted all of 5 minutes. (we did it wrong) Marko (CGM) was going to go down the clearer terrain on the North Eastern side of the map, but as CGM was spotted by the Scimitars we changed his plan and CGM went through a forested area on the North Western side. It got a bit dicey then and this was the crux of the battle. eventually it went UKA's way as CGM's units were caught in the forested area with a FASCAM minefield to navigate he was punished brutally. When CGM finally broke out of the woods it was not the full force of a soviet attack, but it was strong enough to overwhelm the smattering of UKA forces left on the eastern flank, Crusty ordered a withdrawal to a southern hill line but this was never really threatened. The UKA reinforcements would probably have been strong enough to recapture our initial battle positions, but we were short of infantry at this point, and CGM's attack had run out of steam so we ended the mission. My 11 troop of Challenger 2s & Killjoy's(?) 15 platoon of Warriors were the only UKA units to remain relatively unscathed. UKA 11, 12, 13 were CR 2s x3 14, & 15 were Warriors x4 31, & 32 were Scimitars x4 + support assets. Plus reinforcements (1 Squadron CR2s) CGM had a Soviet Regiment 2ish companies T-72s + 1ish company BTRs? BRDM 2s (Normal and AT) Hind Gunships. x3-4 We successfully got Crusty to re-join when his Computer said "No" and his SB crashed. (there was a small synch issue, where he was playing and we were paused, but this was sorted by replaying the join in progress sequence.) I spent most of the mission listening to the Challenger 2 sat there idling. So, yay! Happy Days!

LoL A few comments on the update. The new pause function is excellent The Arty sound effects are superb, I had to lower my volume a couple of times The intensity of the arty barrage, and sound effects made it difficult to communicate with My comrade. (that was very cool) One thing that I did not like, was losing the zoom function in F8. If you are commanding multiple units it makes commanding them more difficult. The update is a credit to esim and all the guys who put in a lot of hours To make it what it is. (A very big thank you) Ps, the lads said they spotted burning trees in the AAR is this a new effect

Gibsonm
One thing that I did not like, was losing the zoom function in F8. Just reduce the realism a bit and F8 will return (or get used to binoculars)
Marko
Just reduce the realism a bit and F8 will return (or get used to binoculars) Thanks Gibsonm I was aware you could adjust the realism setting, But not an option for UK Armour or SVU And can understand why the zoom feature was removed, But I think a better solution Would have been to allow the mission maker to decide weather to remove or keep it in Most players, command via the commander/gunners/F5. View But I am sure some like to Run SB like a (RTS) as I do, and the zoom feature was a useful one.

There is something to be said about trying to command via periscope ports and optics, or unbuttoned as the real tankers do. It adds to the immersion IMHO.

Hedgehog
Well I tried loading the AAR, but I think it is too big, didn't open. SB reverted to the Main Manu. So can some of the chaps try posting a few screenies? thanks!
Gibsonm
The server AAR is the “best” so if someone could post that you might be able to open it.

hoggydog
Ok here as promised a quick overview of the battle in pictorial form: A Hind moves out over the forest looking for targets in the dawn light. It is soon targeting vehicles in the distance. Below the British recon units wait quietly out of sight. Soon a desperate fight in the dawn gloom between opposing recon elements ensues. Challengers further back break cover to engage distant targets as they emerge from the woods to the North. Still the Red tanks advance. more to follow...
Tjay
One thing that I did not like, was losing the zoom function in F8.If you are commanding multiple units it makes commanding them more difficult.+1. OK, this function is not available in RL, but IMHO is one of the things that compensates for having to play on a 2 dimensional flat screen. The alternative, using the TC's binos, is equally unrealistic as it does not mimic the human ability to compensate automatically for vehicle movement and keep the things pointing in roughly the right direction. As implemented at the moment it's as if the binos were strapped to his head, not held in his hands.
Lt DeFault
IDK, I find the model reasonable.
hoggydog
more... In the woods, infantry take a further toll on the advancing horde. The Scimitars soon found themselves having to fight through hordes of T-72's to reach their own lines. losses were high but they did take their toll on the enemy recon elements through the whole advance. T-72's could find no counter to the British infantry in the woods. Even the Warriors proved a difficult opponent.... ...picking off targets emerging from the woodline.
Kingtiger
Nice pics, but a warrior/scimitar question. How do I activate thermals? when I hit thermals its all just black, no pic at all?
