smithcorp
Narco-subs have evolved in serious ways it seems, with the latest finds in Ecuador of a 74 foot kevlar coated sub that had a "crew of four to six, a maximum operational range of 6,800 nautical miles on the surface and can go 10 days without refueling. Packed with 249 lead-acid batteries, the behemoth can also travel silently underwater for up to 18 hours before recharging."Narco-subs started as semi-submersibles but these are apparently the full U-Boat deal, made by ex-naval officers. Some more info here, including photos of the subs. Pretty cool.http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_ ... burger_barhttp://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/03/ff_drugsub/all/
Homer
The unmanned, towed design described near the end of the vid, was ingenious.
ARM505
Wow, that's impressive. I can't call myself an ex-submariner, but I have had a few trips in them (been down to 200m, not quite the max depth of 300m the Daphne was rated to ) - it takes a lot of faith in your equipment to dive if you ask me. I wouldn't want to have to operate in one of those things, but it's a seriously impressive effort nonetheless.
