rump Posted November 24, 2013 Hi,I'm working on a Dutch translation of a mission briefing. Since I have no military background I'm struggling with the translation into Dutch 'Mil speak' of some terms. I hope some of you can help me with the following terms:- Firing Lanes (Artillery)- Security Line- Line of Departure- Combat Outpost- OverwatchThanks!Rump

jazjar Posted November 24, 2013 I would go into a dictionary and look for the .mil translations. I have experience doing it with German, so hopefully this might be similar.

Gibsonm Posted November 26, 2013 Is this a quiz? Five English terms listed, four Dutch equivalents posted? The odd one out would be?
Flying Penguin Posted November 26, 2013 Is this a quiz? Five English terms listed, four Dutch equivalents posted? The odd one out would be? That would be security line..... Dutch is great, you can usually get the gist even if you just look for English similarities, for everything else there's Google....
Lt DeFault Posted November 27, 2013 Dutch is great, you can usually get the gist even if you just look for English similarities, for everything else there's Google...To me, Dutch always sounds like the link between German and English.I mean, "De man heeft een wit shirt." sounds almost like a mash-up of the two. Ssnake Posted November 27, 2013 Well, it is. The common element (including Danish) is that they all frame the North Sea (trading, pillaging, plundering, and other shared recreational activities).
