Future TGIF ideas

I think it should be set up sometime before the actual night. Make a list of who will be attending and players should be randomized. If 20 people plan to attend then those 20 should enter into some sort of drawing and you get placed onto red or blue depending on what you got in the drawing. Whoever is making scenario should ask each player what platoon of units you want. That way captain crunch can have his STRV122 and g-evil can have the clown cars. If there are same units on both teams just put on a red or blue star on the side, front and rear of the tank. For the scenario itself it should be computer friendly no more 10fps. Rivers should be small and kept to a minimal. Too many swimming tanks. I don't care if the scenario is deathmatch or "realistic" scenario. If it has what unit I happen to like i'm happy.

How'z about t-72s Vs Humvees and light allied vehicles.

Blue mission evacuation preceding or coincident with enemy offensive. Convoy enters one map edge, exits the other.

points gained for units surviving, kills, And trucks carrying evacuees.

opfor has all the tanks, but non crewable.

Map updates off.

Opfor has decent arty.

Allied force minimal arty but Heli recon, maybe some light combat support.

UAV route.

Background can be set by scen designer. lotta country out there with t-72s or T- 80

If real force structures were used, a little research, proper unit designations,

House rules on comms, could be fun and instructive. Big ass map, too.

Hell, you could do a follow up the week after, blue counter offensive, for instance. Interactive TGIF campaign.4 weeks.

Missile humvees might work. Escorting convoys might work but you already know where they will go, drive through the woods on a map edge. Heli in mission would be flown around to annoy the A.I units and if the heli had a bomb instead of rockets then hovering above the tank would be cool

Yeah it is hard to explain and wouldn't be very... military like. I will have to make one and see how it goes.

As for another idea, you spoiled us all with that campaign you did. Other than something like that, maybe something non traditional like escort, raids or... dare I say, meeting engagements where score is based on who can hold common center objectives which are checked for ownership at the end of a set time (60 min or so).

Just some ideas...

I can be counted on to generate a campaign-esque set of TGIF scenarios, if necessary.

We talked last night about using the Grenada map for something like what I'm talking about, but I could do something else as well.

If Tacbat is willing, between the two of us I believe that we could make something interesting. There is a nascent campaign idea I have that will not see the light of day until certain formerly-Soviet Union AFVs which are newer than T-64s and younger than T-80s are playable. The idea could make do with playable vehicles of similar capacity, but would need to be modified.

Tac? Up for it? I'm very easy to work with.

as you all know, i've been out of the loop for a "minute". so, i don't know what types of TGIF missions you've been playing. i have a couple scenarios on the Tobruk map i've been working on. they are meant to be part of an operation. both have heavy AI-owned units operating and all that good crap. one is complete minus the briefings. the other is *almost* there. i ran into issues with how long it takes the AI to accomplish its mission. want to mess with those in the meantime? i think i only need another two missions or so to complete the OP.

i'll be on TS most of this evening if anyone wants to test the completed (-) mission.

Hack and I were kicking the ideas around last night and we came up with a basketful of interesting ideas.

After we were finished it occurred to me that maybe some input from folks who are interested more in playing than designing might be useful, too. Is there anything in particular we as a community might like to see, or for that matter might like to see again?

Volcano mentioned that there has never been a desert campaign, and Hack has a map that could be useful for one. That's one thought.

Anyone have others?

Another campaign across Gary Owen's map never gets old though in the mean time, but I am not sure Tacbat cares to revisit that headache again. :(

Probably not in as much detail as that one, but I have been working on another campaign idea. This one will give much more freedom of force composition then the last one did, and will require the involvement of the commanders on both sides prior to and after each scenario. Not a lot, but enough for each of them to have a say in the matter. This way I can step back from it a bit and be a little more hands-off then the last one. No more ammo counting and battle damage recreation for me! I would guesstimate that the first mission will be ready either Mar 27 or 03 Apr. It should be good for 3-4 scenarios, unless it's a flop in which case it will be much shorter. :)

Tac? Up for it? I'm very easy to work with.

Sounds interesting Shot. I won't be able to get on TS for another week or two, but you can PM me in the meantime. Once I'm back out of the dust and into a quiet air conditioned environment, we'll have at 'er. Maybe we can team up with Hack to assist with his desert campaign idea too?

Another possible idea is a TGIF Coop mission, if we have a few willing designers to script the OPFOR.
