Lt DeFault
Indeed. Thank you to everyone at eSim and the SB community for another fun year. May you all have a merry Christmas, and a safe and happy new year. Congratulations again to all of you who welcomed a new addition to your families this year. I'm sure that you will all teach them the importance of simulating armored warfare online and that eSim can expect continued growth in the future! :cvcsalut:
Moderators Volcano Posted December 22, 2014 Author Moderators Share Posted December 22, 2014 Thanks, it looks like I will have to put together another TGIF play list for 2015. Also, thank you to those that took time to make some new scenarios throughout the year - it is nice to play something new for a change. :luxhello:
Moderators Volcano Posted December 24, 2014 Author Moderators Share Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) Hello all, Food for thought for the rest of 2014, as this thread dies a slow death and is forgotten... I am going to list all the scenarios that were played in 2014 in the order that they were mentioned in this thread. Anyway, if anyone thought any one of these scenarios were absolutely terrible or absolutely fantastic then post about it here. If you have any favorites, then please mention them in a post here. Any scenarios that receive a lot of positive criticism may appear more than once next year, or at least would be sure to appear on the list next year. If no one says anything then I will just keep the list the same, shuffle it, and add in more scenarios and maybe swap out a few random ones. If you don't remember a specific scenario then look it up in your downloads folder, or do not say anything good or bad about it. I would prefer if people on mention their favorite ones though. The goal is to put together a five-star "play list" that has no duplicates, or at least a minimal of duplicates. 50+ greatest hits. Next year I *might* try a poll after each mission to gather feed back, until it proves to be a waste of time. BTW, Sean P, nice Christmas modification to your avatar. Gibsonm
On a sliding scale: No worst - since I appreciate the effort people make to create these things. I guess the one I liked least was the Draughts / Checkers (depends where you come from) one. Less liked are the mirror image missions (where you know the enemy has exactly what you have) and the "horde" missions (start off with four companies or so and then another four or five companies spawn during the mission) normally these 9 plus companies are shared by 4 or 5 players and then someone complains that one of your 20+ tanks that you are trying to control is in the wrong place. Liked is pretty much everything else. If pressed, I'd say the ones I like best are the ones where you are outnumbered and are likely to lose but the mission scores are such that if you hold out long enough that's a win. The only other general feedback point I guess is perhaps some more detail in the briefing about any specialist dismounts if included. I can remember a few cases where people unloaded what they thought was a "plain jane" Mech Platoon only to find it was full of RBS70s (usually just after their side had been shredded by an attack helo or two). I can remember similar situations with ATGM teams and other goodies hidden inside APCs.
Moderators Volcano Posted December 25, 2014 Author Moderators Share Posted December 25, 2014 Thanks, yeah, sometimes it is difficult to remember to mention what the APC/IFVs are carrying, and this is bad given that we are all so used to it being MG and rifle teams, but occasionally they are ATGMs. I try to note this off to the side of the map, when I remember it. That is an ongoing improvement.
Moderators Volcano Posted December 25, 2014 Author Moderators Share Posted December 25, 2014 Keep feedback coming if you have it.FWIW, my top 5 scenarios from the list are (in no particular order)...Warlords of Paderborn-3007Clash of Armor 2014a / !Kursk 2013 v5a (same scenario, different maps)Allied Force MTC 01-3011cTGIF Watan Saraf Ekhlas v2Tigers on the Hunt-3019...chances are if it is "different" then I will like it!I liked all the other ones too, but just liked the above ones a little more. Thanks to all those who took time to make some new scenarios for everyone to play (Tankhunter, Tacbat, Toyguy, 911/Tizona). Hard to believe that we now have more good scenarios than we have weeks in the year to play them, which makes choosing TGIF scenarios a tough call.Hopefully 2015 will see the creation of more classics. :drink:

RedWardancer
CHEAT!!!!:bigsmile:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!Just had to say that. Always seems like the Red Team is a well cohesive group :gun: who really know what they are doing, while the Blue Team is found wanting. The Checkers scenario sucked big time. I also don't like any of the equal equipment force scenarios. The Island Civil War scenarios were just chaos! Lots of fun.All we need now are more campaigns. Too many people don't have ribbons on their class-A uniforms (I'm one of them :cool3:)! We need veterans in our ranks!
Tacbat
All we need now are more campaigns.Nothing is stopping you from making one.The Checkers scenario sucked big time. That type of comment doesn't exactly tell the designer anything, now does it? Being more discriptive in your feedback would be helpful so they know what exactly you didn't like. It's like someone telling you that you suck big time at playing SB. It doesn't offer any suggestions on how to help improve your skills.

MDF
I estimate that I participated in ~85% of the TGIF sessions this year. My favorites were:Delaying Action 04t-HN(UK)-3002UN Safe Zone-3011b!OBJ PV - MP_3011a (DL)Convoy Ops 02-3011aTGIF Norkistan vs Sorkistan v2-2 Deliberate Defense 03-3011a-OMUTF Hydra 1980-3011bWhere the Victoria Crosses Grow 2013-3011a-OMU!Battle for Lawfield Corridor v7-OMU (DL)Domfessel 2013-3011a-OMUTanksgiving 3011bGenerally speaking, I prefer missions that:Involve relatively smaller forces. Not a big fan of relying on the AI to control the other members of my platoon, much less trying to manage multiple platoons myself.Have a clear attacking side and defending side. I find these much more interesting and dramatic than the missions where both sides probe along the line of contact to snipe individual enemy vehicles. Moreover, for some reason, these latter kinds missions seem particularly prone to having players operating more or less independently. Close cooperation with human teammates is one of the things I like best about online play.Encompass real world missions rather than "capture the flag," "fight over the objective in the middle," or other fantastical missions. Are armor-centric. IMO, the modeling of infantry in SB is not yet on a par with vehicle modeling. If I want to play infantry-centric or anti-insurgency type missions, I'd rather do it in Arma.My $0.02.

TankHunter
V, thanks for being there to bounce ideas off of and provide advise. Some of my favorites. UN Safe Zone-3011b TGIF Norkistan vs Sorkistan v2-2 TGIF Watan Saraf Ekhlas v2 Island Civil War 01-SC-3011x Symmetrical Attack 04-NP-3011c Georgia v4 (DL) !TGIF T72 Mission 3-2_v8 (DL) Tigers on the Hunt-3019 I probably missed a few there. Usually I like missions that have eastern equipment and/or older equipment and which can be played in different ways. That ICW one that we did I liked in large part due to that big T-72 fight that we had towards the end of it. The ones that I like less are usually high end western on western fights. Particularly 6K front, not that it is a bad scenario, but that it has been played for a decade or more. We have pretty much beaten that one to death by this point. Maybe a re-imagining of it to make it fresh?
Moderators Volcano Posted December 26, 2014 Author Moderators Share Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) 6K Front has already been re-invented about two years ago, and that is why we keep playing it. I guess you have to play it sometime to know that. Whoops, forgot to say: thanks for the feedback.
