T-90 still too soft a target

I can probably help answer that...

Yes there can be many layers of armor on these tanks, they are quite complicated actually. I don't think we can go into a lot of technical detail, but in the old days it used to be one armor level on the outside shell of the model, but now there are layers of armor for ERA, outer inert armor, and inner crew compartment walls, as well as metal plates and inner components. It is pretty detailed.

Whatever difference in protection in the T-80 and T-90 at the moment is likely due to the total of all these angles the round passes through to get into the inner compartment, and that hundreds of mm of protection are lost on the T-90 due to more extreme angles present in both the ERA and the inner armor (the steeper the angle, the larger the error).

Other than that, instead of further speculation lets all just wait and try out the fix in the near future. ;)

Thanks for answer. I just assumed that all Soviet/Russian tanks post T-64 have same 68 degrees glaces.

Yeah, assumption is bad

Actually, the impact angle geometry works flawlessly, therefore the error does not necessarily grow as the impact becomes more shallow.

There's some sort of a hysteresis effect as two different equations were used, one to determine the initial penetration power (which was (and still is) correct. The other equation calculates the new projectile velocity after passing through the plate. It gives inaccurate results (the prime reason why we replaced in in version 2.640). The result is then being used with the next plate (it's an iterative process), so that the more layers an armor array has and the thicker the apparent plate depth is, the bigger the error becomes.

Does that mean in-game T-90 actually has two armor layers? (one ERA one main?)

Most vehicles in SB Pro have multiple layers modeled, particularly those with reactive armor elements. Of course, with a BTR or MT-LB there isn't much that is layered, but other vehicles are (a lot) more complex. They usually consist of several dozen materials, component boxes, and armor elements that are functionally different.
