Depends on the sensitivity and resolution of the thermal sensor as well to resolve the small temperature differences.

From the video it's an export FLIR with a 9 or 7 hz refresh rate and pretty low resolution, as well as an uncooled sensor.

Image through a cooled higher resolution FLIR, treads can usually easily be seen under most circumstances, even on a cold non running vehicle.
