Just my two cents, but yeah, that performance is a given.  Not to dis the guys in the trenches, it's not their fault, but too much institutional knowledge was lost hunting GFs in the Afgani highlands, and don't get me started on Iraq...  Just a quick gander at what's getting printed in Armor and PS magazines shows that it's going to take a fair chunk of time to get US armor back to any semblance of their pre-GWOT glory.

Been reported both US teams came 2/3rd to last, beating only the M84 crew from Slovenia .Seems they at the AFV recognition stand they would have shot up 22 friendlies also, not a good showing. But if we look at the past the US and Canada never did win more than twice, those dam Europeans have had the best tankers it would seem. Italy did better it looks like in the C1 Ariete  :o

Just like the 2 Canadian teams placed dead last in the Sullivan cup this year.

Just a few historic remarks:

In 1973 the Chinese farm area was totally arid, since the farm wasn't worked for years. See CORONA Atlas of the Middle East.

The Egyptian occupation of the area, which the mission represents,  took place mostly during the night of October 6-7th. The Egyptian force in the area was the 16th infantry division, reinforced with the 14th armored brigade. Both formations were equipped with T-55s.

The Israeli forces fighting in the area were fragments from the 184th, 79th and 196th armor battalions, all in all a 2-companies-sized force, equipped with M48A3s (with 105 mm guns).

From memory the brief indicates that, with the Leo 1AS used as a proxy.

If they're not deploying to combat zones in Iraq or Afghanistan, or supporting a homeland mission in the states, or partnering with a foreign nation for a 6-month training deployment, or conducting a 30-day unit rotation at one our three combat training centers...I'm sure they'll be there.

Thanks for posting the article. You always post really interesting stuff.
