Homer
The War Game is an Academy Award-winning documentary on nuclear warfare that was made by Peter Watkins in 1965 and was subsequently suppressed by the BBC until 1985. It remains largely unknown despite its historical importance, its high quality, and the looming gravity of its subject.

Captain_Thunder
If you haven't been watching it on tv, or even if you have, you can watch the first 5 episodes of the PBS documentary called "Ground War" on the PBS website: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/ground-war/The second episode "Battlefield Mobility" deals with the evolution of tanks.
Members Retro
Interesting link, thanks Good to know that the M1A2 is still the "most powerful battletank in the world right now - there is no tank that can match the Abrams in an open battle". Its "massive 120mm gun" even has a laser range finder.. awesome! :men_ani:
Captain_Thunder
I was cringing more than just a little when I heard those statements myself. Remember that the program is designed for the average layman in the U.S. that knows little or nothing about the military let alone tanks. While those "absolute" statements provided about the M1A2 might be speculative, it was great to see the action shots of M1A2, Leopard II, and Merkava on t.v. Since this program airs on the airwaves and not via cable or satellite, such sightings are very rare.

Stanny
This is a part of the very dramatic movie about the fate of one T-80BV tank crew that gets surrounded by multiple Chechen RPG operators during the notorious January 1995 assault of Grozny. I think it's a good illustration how the tank is helpless without infantry cover in urban combat conditions. Very cruel scenes so these videos may be improper for sensitive viewers.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK5UV6S6rtw&feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZFFJDK2dyM&feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5M22dEgdh4&feature=relatedIt is in Russian so I will help if anyone needs translation. Basic story is that T-80BV rides a small spetsnaz group on the top of it's armor into a chechen sieged hospital complex in Grozny where covers their advance with main gun fire and get's it's right track damaged by a RPG hit. Surrounded by numerous RPG operators the TC of T-80BV is given 5 minutes to either surrender or get his tank blown up.

Stanny
Stanny, is there an English translation out there?I will try to search Youtube for a version with English subtitles, this is a 1997 very old and rare movie.Basic translation is:Guys with RPK light machine guns in SFERA helmets are a GRU spetsnaz groupT-80BV is one of the remaining tanks of destroyed 131 mechanized infantry brigadeSniper with SVD has lost his unit and is hiding from Chechen rebelsFemale snipers are chechen mercenaries from LithuaniaBlack guys are chechen mercenariesWhen T-80BV gets his track broken and driver killed (alarm starts sounding in cockpit) TC contacts spetsnaz on whether they managed to get into the hospital building and that the tank is damaged though turret is facing the building. He asks where are the positions of chechen machine gunners. Spetsnaz commander says that chechen main forces are located on the third floor and encourages TC to engage and not to be afraid. TC says that he will be able to fire just several rounds before the tank will be finally destroyed as it's surrounded by ten chechens with RPG-18. TC says gunner that they will fire at building. Gunner says that "he always wanted" to lie in field grave. They start firing and supress chechen machine gunners. Raged chechen commander orders his fighters to destroy the tank and bring the TC to him as he is "more expensive then all the mercenaries all together". Chechens fire their RPGs and TC says that he does not feel his legs anymore. Mechanized brigade colonel (with one eye) gets radio message from spetsnaz group that machine gunners have been supressed and counterattack will push chechens out of the hospital complex. They gather their remaining forces and attack the building where they find the crucified TC of destroyed T-80BV. Colonel orders to remove the leutenant from the cross and tells his name to other soldiers with words "Name your kids in the name of this guy - that was him who won this battle". In subtitles it's said that Grozny hospital complex was again seized by chechens a few days later.
