I suppose they tested it before in a more reasonable fashion, and then made this movie clip as a "confidence builder" to prospective customers. "See? We trust this bullet-proof glass so much that even the cameraman got behind it, and see that even the wife of the inventor trusts the quality of this new glass! (and we all know how much reason women have to trust their husbands, ha, ha, ha..."

That being said, it's on the same level of horribly stupid as that Afghan "testing" of bullet proof vests that was on YouTube a while ago, just with better shooting skills in this case.
