12Alfa
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrVSB4TJ2PI:luxhello:A brand-new armored personnel carrier, the BTR-MD Rakushka (Shell), is to prove its worth to the Russian military during tests in the Tula Region. The APC, which can accommodate up to 13 troops, is equipped with a 500-horsepower engine and can reach 70 km per hour. Its thick armor is bulletproof, and also resists shrapnel and shells, hence its name. The tests will go on till summer 2015 when a special commission will decide on Rakushka’s future.
Members Ssnake
Sounds like it offers the same minimal protection level as the BMD. Certainly a big step forward for the airborne troops, otherwise ... ?
Zipuli
Not impressed...But carrying 13 troops is always a plus, compared to BMDs!
Gibsonm
Its thick armor is bulletproof, and also resists shrapnel and shells, hence its name. That pretty much applies to the BTR-60, M113 or anything of around the same vintage or newer. "resists" is a pretty vague descriptor of armour protection, similarity no definition of how large the "shells" are. And they are persisting with that "crawl over the engine / drive train" method of exit/entry?
dejawolf
And they are persisting with that "crawl over the engine / drive train" method of exit/entry? might be a case of balancing. the BMD is usually airdropped with a parachute, like this:
Hedgehog
Uh, that's just a BMD without the turret.OK the armour maybe thicker with the weight saving of removing the turret. But I guess it beats an unarmoured truck and walking
