Movement orders

Will it be or is it possible to issue orders and then have them not followed until an execute command is given ?

I find half my units are at their waypoints before I have finished issuing all my orders.

Also

Is there a way to tell a unit to follow another ? and at "x" distance ?

Might be especially useful in a hostage rescue scen where you want a civilian unit to closely follow a military unit out of an area etc.

Actually, a generic SF uniform type would be nice.

Perhaps some generic black uniforms/diver etc.

Well the answer to both of these depend on when you are giving the orders.

In the Mission Editor you can set an "embark if ..." Tigger? is activated.

Once the mission starts you can activate that trigger and all the units with that command will start to move at the same time.

If you are already in the Mission you can still do this by starting the route with a free standing waypoint a small distance from the unit.

You can plot lots of routes for many units but none will be executed until you plot the small connecting route from your unit to the free standing waypoint.

Its a lot easier to plot 5 or 6 of these short (say < 100m) routes for each of the units to move to their respective waypoint and then embark on your more complex preplotted route.

If in the Mission Editor yes (either by putting a condition on the trailing unit to only start to move if the leading unit is in Region X or similar) but this usually takes a bit of testing to get the spacing right.

If the mission not really apart from observing the trailing unit and manually adjusting its speed.

There is no "no closer than Xm of unit Y" type option.

If you are talking small scale another possible option is to create a heterogeneous unit of 6 vehicles and assign vehicle types to call signs and then plot the movement of the one unit.

So for example a small convoy could be "a" unit of six vehicles (2 x escorts, 4 x trucks). Allocate the callsigns properly and you'll end up with a convoy going down the road with an order of march of:

escort, 4 x trucks, escort

Now if only someone would write a guide on how to do that ...

Independent Waypoints:

If you aren't familiar with creating these, Page 3 of the "Heliborne Insertion 3.023" guide from here:

shows how.

Different subject, but the methodology is the same. :)
