Marko
Not totally ruled out still means "rather unlikely, and certainly not anytime soon."Understood.Not pushing the issue. But some of the AFV's used in the early years of the cold war would make for someExcellent scenarios. Vehicles like the T-34/85. Sherman Chaffee etcI have waited ten years for a high fidelity WW2 armour simulation.Made by any developer not just Esim. What's a few more years . Scrapper_511
Thanks for the OT-64 shots, 12Alfa, especially the interior one. Never seen the inside of one before. Coincidentally I was just re-reading a portion of "Red Thrust" by Zaloga where it implied the Pols' dissatisfaction with the BTR (-60?).

12Alfa
AFV of the week has returned with the TYPE 96 APC :luxhello: The Type 96 8×8 wheeled armoured personnel carrier is operated by the Japanese Ground Self-Defence Force (JGSDF). The vehicle is produced by Defence Systems Division of Komatsu. Type 96 is a high-mobility APC capable of transporting up to eight fully equipped combat troops and two crew members. The Type 96 APC entered service with the JGSDF in 1995. Komatsu delivered 46 vehicles to the JGSDF by the end of 1999. JGSDF ordered 31 vehicles in 2003 and 14 in 2004. About 270 units were delivered by 2009. Komatsu received orders for 17 Type 96 APCs in FY2010 and 11 vehicles in FY2011. The Type 96 APC is primarily used by infantry units to launch operations and transport troops to the battlefield.
12Alfa
This armored personnel carrier is fitted with E-NBC (enhanced nuclear, biological and chemical) protection system. Vehicle is also fitted with a laser warning device. The Type 96 is armed with a roof-mounted 12.7-mm machine gun or 40-mm automatic grenade launcher. Weapons can be fired from within the cupola. Troops enter and leave the vehicle through the rear door-ramp or roof hatches. There are two firing ports on each side of the troop compartment. Two more ports are located in the rear of the hull.
12Alfa
Variants Armoured Personnel Carrier – Rear section can accommodate 8 troops and their equipment. They exit the vehicle via a powered ramp in the rear. The troop compartment has two firing ports on each side. There are five roof hatches, three on the left and two on the right, on the top of the troop. NBC Reconnaissance Vehicle – The new vehicle is equipped with a wide range of sensors, a weather observation system, self-decontamination system and an air filtration system. The NBC reconnaissance vehicle carries the JGSDF’s chemical warfare response force. It replaces the chemical reconnaissance vehicles and the biological reconnaissance vehicles currently operated by the JGSDF As part of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces humanitarian mission to Iraq, during the early part of 2004 the vehicle operated out of the Dutch military base near Samawa with Japanese troops.
Lt DeFault
They exit the vehicle via a powered ramp in the rear.On this (and other) AFVs, is the ramp controlled by the dismounts, or a crew member? IOW, do the dismounts push a button after they get out, or do they give the crew the "all clear" to close the ramp? Just curious.
Gibsonm
Often (usually?) its a crewman.Guys getting out would tend to miss hitting a button and if the vehicle is approaching at speed to pick them up you need to wait for it to stop, the guy to press the button, then the ramp lowering before they can get on.With a crewman they can drop the ramp as soon as they stop (often a driver task) and raise it as the last guy is getting out (helps provide a sense of urgency if the ramp is going up and you aren't quite out (think draw bridge)).Also when collecting, the crew can have the ramp down as the guys are getting up and running for the vehicle.

Much like other multi-faceted chassis of this type, the FV432 continues to serve in other roles (electronic warfare, battlefield recovery, artillery command, etc...), though not the primary frontline armored personnel carrier role it was originally designed for.
