RogueSnake79
Any flames of war players around here? I just discovered the game about a month ago. Looks like a lot of fun. I've seen games like this in the past, but not packaged up so nicely, with such attention to detail. I plan on ordering this starter set soon: http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=4815 About $60-$70, new version apparently, so not all resalers have it in stock just yet. Not bad when you look at what you get. Of course the price goes up from there. The starter set is like your first crack rock, to get you hooked. Anyway, I ordered one of the campaign books. Got it, and I have to say its the nicest game book I've ever seen. These guys really do nice work, and don't seem to cut corners. Only problem will be finding someone to play with... Nice videos here, show basics: These pages have rules info, but also give you a look at how nice the rule books are. Full color, and very nice art. http://www.flamesofwar.com/hobby.aspx?art_id=3157
RogueSnake79
Zvezda, a well known model kit manufacture also produces a line of military strategy games. http://art-of-tactic.com/ They have a basic "Tank Combat" starter set that only runs about $30-$35. I picked it up, and its pretty cool. Has 6 nice 1:100 scale tank models to assemble, and a traditional hex board, with rules, dice etc. Totally different game-play mechanic than that of flames of war. This video shows basic game-play rules: http://www.amazon.com/Zvezda-Games-500786222-Tank-Combat/dp/B00DIAMPO8 They have a modern series as well, called "Battle for Oil", and several other games in the $60+ price range. Lots of new, interesting looking board games out these days. I just have to decide if I like tanks more than Star Wars: http://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Flight-Games-SWI01-Star/dp/1616619902
Vacquero
AWWWWW, that's so cute! Roguesnake and his little toy soldiers. Has a spot cleared off on the living room floor and everything.

enigma6584
They are very popular games. They play them at the local hobby shop I used to frequent. I don't have the game itself but I do have several of the battle manuals which I've used for background research in putting together scenarios for Battlefront's Combat Mission series of games. If I were you RogueSnake79, check your local hobby store if you have one and/or go to the main website and check out their community forums-boards for players near you. You will most likely at the very least find people online and set-up games like they do now with the old Avalon Hill.
Hedgehog
Facebook and Google are powerful tools as well. FoW also do post war conflicts, they have covered Vietnam and recently Arab Israeli wars and at end of this year/next year they are doing a Fulda Gap expansion set in the 80s. I purchased a set of 3x T-55s to start a 15mm soviet army, but everyone round here has one of those it seems. :heu: Still with the tactics Dark passed on from SVU, should know how to use them.
Captain_Colossus
Quite the impractical hobby- the cost of just a couple of pieces is like a brand new PC game. It even gets pricey for map objectives and tokens (for something like that, you could just make your own):http://www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=79&PageIndex=12With things like floor and storage space and the difficulty of physically finding a local player, computer games do this cheaper and better. You don't get the tactile feel and actually handle the models with PC games, but if I had something like this, it would probably just sit around. Seems almost better for collectors and modelers.
