Harlikwin
Well, after "following" this game for many years I finally actually ended up getting and it actually mostly works on my low-end laptop. I played the original SB1 many years ago and enjoyed it, this looks much much better.

Harlikwin
Thanks,I'm sure I'll be along directly with piles of dumb questions. Thus far gunnery is fun. Incidentally, for dumb question number 1 what does the "shading" graphics setting do. With my system I was getting incredible terrain tearing and "streaking" with it set to anything other than zero (Intel GMA graphics integrated on the second gen core i5). Once I turned that off, things work pretty well. For dumb question #2, any plans to add further crewable soviet era vehicles, T55/T55AM/T64/T80 perhaps?
Gibsonm
Hi and welcome, Here is an extract from my VU's "Starter Pack" that might be of use: Firstly as a general rule, can we suggest doing the complete set of tutorials for a specific vehicle type and get a bit of practice and then move onto the next. So for example all the M1 (or Leo 2) tutorials, rather than a couple of Leo ones and a couple of M1 ones. Then, moving on to downloading GaryOwen's Camp Hornfelt training missions: http://www.steelbeasts.com/Downloads/p13_sectionid/24/p13_fileid/1858 These seven missions are M1 centric but give you an understanding of a range of tactical concepts and skills that can be used with any vehicle. Then look at the various SOPs and video clips on our web site. Also be sure to look in the SB Docs folder on your hard drive for the tutorial PDFs. Those are good reading. You will also find there (look for "Specialist Tutorial.pdf" in the "docs" folder) a set of guides that Gibsonm has written covering topics like breaching obstacles, using the missile teams and conducting helicopter insertions that are also highly recommended. A 3.025 compliant version can be found at Primer Bundle 3.023 version 1_0: http://www.steelbeasts.com/Downloads/p13_sectionid/257/p13_fileid/2641 There's also a good scenario called, Tanks! Again by MDF, in the download section that is great for practice: http://www.steelbeasts.com/Downloads/p13_sectionid/24/p13_fileid/2585 It's you alone with 9 other enemy tanks roaming the map looking for you. It's great for reinforcing the lessons about staying in the low ground, tank positioning, etc. The first time you get all 9 will be truly satisfying, plus you can edit the scenario and change the tank to whichever one you want. Another good source of information is the Steel Beasts Wiki: http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/index.php/Main_Page Lastly when you are feeling up to it, we'd recommend Toyguy's series of 11 YouTube videos on scenario creation: https://www.youtube.com/user/ToyguyVT/videos This should give you the foundation skills and then we recommend you come along to one of our sessions (or even another VU's) and start to build on it (there is nothing like gaining experience "on the job"). Anyway have fun!

Members Ssnake
Incidentally, for dumb question number 1 what does the "shading" graphics setting do.It creates shadows; see user's manual, page 19.(Intel GMA graphics integrated on the second gen core i5). Once I turned that off, things work pretty well. That, and no antialiasing are the recommended settings for Intel's integrated graphics. You'd need a "real" 3D GPU to apply the full range of visual effects. Then again, disabling shadows gets you the traditional look of SB from 2006...2013, and for the most part it's probably not that noticeable anyway. For dumb question #2, any plans to add further crewable soviet era vehicles, T55/T55AM/T64/T80 perhaps?Rule #1, eSim Games does not speculate about future features. We announce accomplishments, and we usually do so in the weeks prior to a new release.Rule #2, we try to get as many vehicles into Steel Beasts as possible. The decision to do so depends first and foremost on the opportunity that is, we need to be able to research the vehicle to a degree that allows us to create a suitable model of it. Some vehicles are easier to access than others. Then it's also a matter of sufficient "free time" in our development schedule to allow us to work on vehicle/fire control system models for which we have no military customer. And I must say that our military customers tend to hog most of our development capacity. I can't blame them, and the money that we earn with such development contracts largely subsidizes the work on the Personal Edition (so any complaint about the lack of time from my end would probably sound hypocritical). But eSim Games is a for-profit company after all; the precondition of our existence is that we're making a buck more than we must spend. Profit maximization in the strictest sense is not a management top priority; "not losing money" however is.
Harlikwin
Thanks Ssnake,One other question, on the instant action is OPFOR the same each time, or is it randomly determined or something else. I seem to do best with the LeoA5 for whatever reason but get killed super fast in almost everything else.
Members Ssnake
OpFor in Instant Action is somewhat tailored to the unit that you have, but ultimately it simply reflects the reality that most vehicles other than the latest MBTs simply have limited survivability. Instant Action is some sort of a last stand where you're almost nailed in place and have to slug it out against enemy with numerical superiority. It is inevitable that you will get hit sooner or later, and less armored units will suffer more. As each component failure limits your combat effectiveness, things tend to go downhill with noticeable acceleration.
Harlikwin
Actually I meant the Leo1A5, not the 2, I seem to get 1-2 kills in most modern stuff whereas the with the Leo1A5 its more in the 4-12 range. Is it possible that the older vehicles don't have thermals and don't see me?On the plus side I've managed to complete a few tutorials, and on my 3rd try I finished the first camp hornfelt mission with only 1 casualty. Talk about a learning curve.
