DanishTanker
Does anyone know wether the ingame Leopard 2A5-DK will be getting the new Attica GL 3rd Generation thermal imaging device which is now being put on the Danish Leopards? The new Attica GL thermal imager & optics will be replacing the old WBG-X imager & optics in the Gunner's EMES-15 primary sight, as well as the one in the Commander's PERI sight on Danish Leopard 2 tanks this year. The Attica GL provides 50x optical zoom, which can then be digitally magnified eight times for a continuous 400x zoom :eek2:http://www.army-technology.com/news/newscassidian-to-support-several-nato-states-leopard-2-tanks-modernisation-4296696http://www.defenceandsecurity-airbusds.com/documents/10157/137612/2014_Vehicle_Optronics_24S_EN.pdf

DanishTanker
Well I assume they will put it in once all their tanks have been retrofitted with these new sights, to make sure their training facilities are up to date Hopefully we will then get it for our version too, and I don't see any reason why not

Hmmmm.
Gibsonm
Hopefully we will then get it for our version too, and I don't see any reason why not Well as Grenny said, Either the Danes will have to pay to get it modeled in Steel Beasts or eSim will do it as a pet project (less likely to happen).
Gibsonm
So you can watch a Soviet pick his nose at 10km, in graphic detail? Hmmmm. Well since there haven't been any "Soviets" since what 1991 or so, they all disappeared some 25 years before the sight was made, so I doubt you'll see any.
MDF
So you can watch a Soviet pick his nose at 10km, in graphic detail? Hmmmm.Wait a minute... this thing can see backwards in time too? Impressive!Edit: Gibsonm beat me to it.

Members Ssnake
Wait a minute... this thing can see backwards in time too? Impressive!Actually, that's quite normal. You get to see the moon as it was one second ago, the sun as it looked like eight minutes ago, etc. So, the more distant a target is, the further you look back in time.
DanishTanker
Just read that the Leopard 2A7's delivered to the German Bundeswehr also feature a 3rd generation thermal sight for the gunner? Can anyone confirm this?"The tank commander is provided with a new roof-mounted stabilised panoramic sight that includes a third-generation thermal imager, laser rangefinder, and charge coupled device camera. The gunner also has a third-generation thermal sight." - IHS Janeshttp://www.janes.com/article/46904/germany-receives-first-leopard-2a7-mbt
DanishTanker
Ok apparently it's official, it has been changed: Apparently the initial plan was only to change the commanders PERI, but in the end both were changed. The right choice IMO.
Rosmarus
What exactly is the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation thermal sights?
DanishTanker
What exactly is the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation thermal sights?Primarily clarity of image and magnification capability, but also different thermal modes. The higher the generation of thermal sensor, the clearer the image and the higher the possibility for magnification.
Grenny
3rd generation TIS is also more resilient.1st and 2nd generation had lots of moving parts which liked to fail.

DanishTanker
This new update has probably made the Leopard 2A7 the most deadly MBT in the world I think, at least now it's almost impossible to hide from it With 50x optical zoom in both thermal & daylight mode, plus 8x digital magnification you've got some serious observational advantages, and the new DM63 ammunition allows for some astonishing long range accuracy according to what I've heard from a Danish tanker who's up to date on these matters.

So, deosn't matter anyway :-(
