TSe419E
First, is the main gun ammo supposed to have tracers? I do not see see any tracers in the "Tank Range," "Instant Action," or any scenarios I play.Second, are the controls supposed to be super sensative to movment inputs (with a trackball) when viewing through the gunners secondary sight while firing the coax? Just a tiny movement of the cursor caused the turret to slew so wildly it was nearly impossible to control.
Moderators Volcano Posted October 27, 2015 Moderators Share Posted October 27, 2015 It is correct, the KE ammunition is not supposed to have a tracer.Try pressing P key when using coax to dump any kind of lead calculations going on, but that is just a guess.

Hedgehog
First, is the main gun ammo supposed to have tracers? I do not see see any tracers in the "Tank Range," "Instant Action," or any scenarios I play..No, L27 & L23 do not have tracers.Second, are the controls supposed to be super sensative to movment inputs (with a trackball) when viewing through the gunners secondary sight while firing the coax? Just a tiny movement of the cursor caused the turret to slew so wildly it was nearly impossible to control. The FCS is adding dynamic lead.Lase then press the "P" or Middle Mouse Button to cancel dynamic lead.Range settings will remain. Also the Aux Sight is partially modelled, as there is no data on the reticule pattern that has been implemented, into SB, so far.

TankHunter
Just keep in mind that any change related to the FCS will lead to automatic lead being applied. Switch to coax? Auto-lead. Changed range? Auto-lead.

Moderators Volcano Posted October 28, 2015 Moderators Share Posted October 28, 2015 Just checked and the Hesh round in the current version is missing the tracer,I'm sure we had it before, you can see in this video at 2.50 that Hesh has a tracer element. Can someone point out the time where you see a tracer? I guess it is somewhat visible in the view looking with binoculars, but I wouldn't exactly call that a tracer. Tracers are obvious to see, glow bright orange (NATO), that looks to me like its just the visible projectile dropping into view - it doesn't appear to be glowing orange. Not doubting anyone where, but the thing is: Janes doesn't specify that the HESH has a tracer, but then again, Janes could just be wrong or perhaps they just didn't say. You never quite know with Janes. Also, the L31 HESH is not designated as HESH-T which is how some of the other British ammo is designated, so this is confusing to say the least...
Grenny
Volcano: Tracer can be seen at 2:54, close to the target. You can even see it bounce up after the hit. Is it HESH? Or is it a training round hitting dry dust?
Rotareneg
A HESH round isn't gonna bounce, I'm pretty sure that's a training round.
Crusty
Hopefully CharlieB or CR2_Commander can chime in and let us know for sure.
Grenny
A HESH round isn't gonna bounce, I'm pretty sure that's a training round.I too doubt that the tracer would remain(with a forward momentum) after the HESH charge detonated :-PBut what do I know?
CharlieB
Hesh rounds dont bounce. I cant see the video but I would assume that you are seeing a video with SH-Prac being fired rather that HESH. The Bang, big orange glow and grey smoke would give away the use of a HESH round.I seem to recall that the SH-Prac has a tracer element but can't remeber with the HESH as we do not get to fire them that often...
Grenny
......but can't remeber with the HESH as we do not get to fire them that often...Guess the reason is the UXO problem that might arise on training grounds?
Crusty
In the book "Chieftain" by Rob Griffin there is a cutaway drawing of the L31A7 Hesh round (which according to the wiki is the round used for the CR2 in SB) it shows four tracer elements built into the base and the same for the L32A6 practice round but not for the smoke round I'll post a picture when I get home from work.
IrishHussar
When firing at screen targets on a range the British Army normally would use SH Prac which is a CE nature practice round. The main reason is because Hesh causes to much damage to the range. If HESH is being fired the targets are normally placed in "HESH pits" or special locations on the range in use.
GSprocket
http://www.kotsch88.de/munition/120mm_L11/120mm_L31_a.jpgNot seeing a tracer. A base fuse, main charge.. that looks to be about it.The L32A6 Prac version contains a "flash pellet" for "spotting purposes". Which would be redundant if the round was traced??
