Hans von Luck. Commanded 21st Panzer, which was equipped at least in part with a lot of captured and repurposed French AFV.
21st Panzer was amongst the first units to encounter D-Day forces, situated in and around the Orne river, proximate to what would eventually be known as Pegasus Bridge.
If I recall correctly he was eventually assigned to the Eastern Front, captured, then later released and ran his own TV station.

Beautious. You rock in fulgent abundance. Too many choices, they all look so good.

I do. GaryOwen and I have a Sinai map done up in Cyrillic that we're both slowly but surely transliterating.do any of you other geeks collect images of old maps?If that doesn't tweak your geek, nothing will.

Do something about that cough. Could be swine flu.<Cough> Infantry Sprites <cough>BFD about infantry sprites. Infantry are a lot tougher than they used to be, and they're the panzerschrecken they should be. I personally and speaking strictly for myself would be much happier with a...wait for it...playable T-72, and would value an upgrade/patch/whatever featuring such. If it came with infantry sprites, wunderbar. If not, BFD.
Just me, just my insignificant opinion.

The ride wouldn't be the same, though. Todays cameras could be mounted on 1:16 scale RC tanks, for that matter, but the ride issue would remain, in that in either case it wouldn't scale correctly.

Interesting, Hack. By the way, you didn't mention how long it took to get your vehicle unstuck.

This can work the same for airmobile infantry and helicopters, too. Or simulating truck-borne infantry, for that matter.

I'll be on about 1900-2000 PST. If work doesn't call. If I'm not, you'll guess what's happened.

Watch FR grind to a relative halt. The game (OK, my card) already has all it can do to maintain an acceptable frame-rate in a forest.
Give it freeway-speed, couple that with the need to animate railings, lights, traffic, etc, and I expect that my machine (probably a couple of others, as well) will do the electronic equivalent of flipping me the bird.

If you can show up Tuesday or Wednesday in TS, we could maybe kick the tires on this one. I might try to chivvy you and anyone else who shows up into PTing my latest creation, BTW.

Coolness. You wouldn't like to make a Tunguska skin, maybe?

Happy Birthday. Hopefully you got your upgrade in time to serve as a sort of present.

OK, maybe that's what I was looking at. Thought it had an M-48 turret, though.

What was the engineering vehicle with the shovel arm?
It looked like an M-48 with the gun removed and the arm replacing it in the turret.

I have this one. I should have posted a link. I'm bad. I should be killed.
Agreed. Very informative, very good read.

Second. The community is very noob-friendly. If you are willing to listen, willing to take and follow orders, and are also able/willing to think, you will have a good time.

Tank Tactics by Roman Jarymowycz. Twenty pages in, already seems like a great read.

Almost-involuntarily I found myself asking 'Where is the infantry?'

I recall that the tanks deployed for OIF/OEF were in some cases incompletely painted. That might be why you see green when you should be seeing tan.
